The
Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (District) has
completed Detailed Watershed Plans (DWPs) for
Calumet Sag
Channel Watershed,
Little Calumet River Watershed,
North Branch of the Chicago River Watershed,
Poplar Creek Watershed,
and
Upper Salt Creek Watershed. As part of the DWPs, the District developed
hydrologic and hydraulic models to facilitate the development of regional flood control projects and to ensure that the potential projects do not
cause adverse impacts elsewhere in the watershed. The output from the models was used to create inundation maps, which delineate areas where
flooding is expected to occur during a 100 year (1%) rainfall event. Below are links to the inundation maps produced at the same scale as the FEMA

Specifics related to model development can be reviewed in the respective DWPs.
The modeling results from MWRD detailed watershed plans can now be viewed on
a web-based GIS Application. The application allows for viewing of the
inundation area and water surface elevation calculated during the DWP
process as well as viewing "live" regulatory Flood Insurance Study data
(floodplain, floodway, base flood elevation and LOMR/A) from FEMA. The
application can be found at
http://gispub.mwrd.org/swima/. At this time, this application only is
supported on 32-bit browsers.
